Prepare the Brain for Effective Communication

One of the first things I do in a mediation meeting with divorcing couples, is acknowledge the normal cycle of emotions they may be experiencing, and how those emotions may show up at any moment and impact productive conversation. I see myself as part of the couple’s support team. For me that responsibility includes helping them show compassion for themselves and their spouse in difficult moments—so that the decisions they make remain rooted in their intentions and goals.
